Dance & Sing for Parkinson's
The Dance and Sing for Parkinson’s Scotland charity has been set up in order to offer the researched benefits of dance and group singing to the community of people in Scotland who are living with Parkinson’s. This support is extended to family members, carers and friends.
The classes offer a blend of dance, singing, voice and breath work which aim to benefit and enrich the lives of people living with Parkinson’s.
The Dance for PD® programme has been shown to relieve debilitating symptoms, aid short term mobility, significantly improved stability, contribute to social inclusion, decrease rigidity and improve facial expression and overall quality of life and self efficacy.
The Sing to Beat ® programme supports participants by focussing on breath and singing to enhance lung function and an also to improve speech and communication function. Group Singing is a very holistic activity , bringing together physical and mental functions as well as facilitating emotional expression.

Have any Question?

I am worried about making mistakes and getting it wrong
There is no wrong way to move, and all participants enjoy learning new skills and if we make mistakes, we usually just have a laugh!
What's involved - what to expect?
Most first time participants feel a level of apprehension or nerves, quite normal! These classes are designed to give you a pleasurable hour of connecting body, brain, heart and voice. We use a variety of dance styles, story telling, creative movement and offer various adaptations for you to choose what suits you best!
Our breath and singing work is designed to raise awareness of how our breathing apparatus can support our voices. This has a very practical application as it enables us to be better heard, when communicating .
You absolutely don’t need to be concerned as to whether or not you are a good singer.
You won’t be asked to sing by yourself (unless you’d actually like to!) and in our quest to extend our exhale, we dip into a very wide range of songs. We also approach everything in a light – hearted way, and have been known to incorporate work with straws and kazoos.
What to wear?
Comfortable clothing, and you can choose to take your shoes off too, or not.
Who attends these classes?
We have a group of men and women living with Parkinson’s as well as other neurological conditions that attend. Various ages and abilities. A class without judgement.
Can I donate?
Yes of course! We are a registered Charity. Details are available on the Donate page.
How can I get involved?
Volunteers are crucial in managing the classes and if you would like to be involved on a voluntary basis, or would like more information about what being a volunteer entails, please contact us via the email – dsforparkinsons@gmail.com
